Last night we had a joint 30th birthday party for Martini, drinkywinky, and dabunny, who turned 30 in August, September, and July, respectively. I had been working on a 30-year playlist for Bunny anyway, so when Martini suggested I bring my iPod for a music source, I was stoked. ( The 30 Years Awesome Playlist )

Happy Birthday to dabunny, who is officially not in his twenties anymore, the whippersnapper!

I didn't ever get around to mentioning this: I had a little birthday barbecue on Monday night (and have been working like mad all other days this week). It was a lovely time, and I really appreciate everyone who made it over for a Monday night party. I specifically tried to keep it small, inviting only a few people, but it made it up to 20 people. I was extremely bizarre seeing my various social circles (work, gaming, poly, LJ, family) in one place. Here's tchipakkan's description of it, from her weekly update:
Gradually a whole lot of people came by- mostly guys around 30, and couples, which makes sense since that's what Dan is, but first I gave him a hard time "Don't you know any girls?". Eventually they showed up. As planned, there was assorted barbecue: hotdogs with cheese (a weakness of mine, although I generally burn myself on the molten cheese), burgers (boca burgers and dogs), chicken strips, and of course chips and drinks and raw veggies. Dan brought out his bocce set (Willow rocked!). Willow gave Dan the best present- a flying screaming monkey. I got figitty and sketched some of Dan's friends- hope it didn't scare them. It was good to see Dan so surrounded with friends.
I think it's a sign when your own mother complains about your parties being a sausage-fest. I'm not sure what it's a sign of, but it cracked me up. But she's right. It is good to see me so surrounded with friends. I still think of myself as the unpopular kid, based on my experiences in high school. I think I have to adjust that thinking.

I woke up with this in my head, to the tune of "Pretty Fly for a White Guy"
And all the boys say they'll turn gay for my birthday...
I'm having a birthday and you know it will be fun. I act like I'm 13, but I'm turning 31. Folks say I'm trying too hard, and I'm not quite macho but if they're stuck together then they really are "one nacho"
So don't delay. Bake a cake. You know how I get on sugar, anyway. Come on over here: Have a beer. It's my birthday, It's my birthday. So if you have cake, come over to play. At least bring over a tub of frosting anyway. The world needs one of me that's all that anyone could take!
In other news, I found a white hair among the 10 or so that grow on my upper lip last night.

My birthday season is upon us. As my grandmother used to say: "Join the thousands who know the joy of giving!" I got two birthday presents last night, even though my birthday isn't until Monday. dabunny had a custom Crokinole board made for me, with the Boston Bruins logo inlaid. It's absolutely stunning; pictures to follow. Crokinole is a bit like creamer hockey, only more awesome. Thank you, Bunny. [Edit: You can see my new CROKINOLE BOARD on the artist's gallery page. It's the one titled "Top Shelf"]
I also received a pair of black earbuds from the beneficent bemusing, which fit like a charm and sound great. The official iPod earbuds didn't stay in my ears with any of the provided sizing attachments, so this was quite a thrill. Thank you, Bemusing.
Buying presents is hard. (let's go to the mall?) Bunny thinks he's very bad at buying presents, because I'm rarely super-enthused when I receive them. I see this more as an issue with my being bad at receiving gifts. Gifts that I get really excited about at the time are usually forgotten in a couple of days (notable exception). The things he's gotten me where I've been sort of meh have ended up being major lifechanging items, like the Roomba and Killer Bunnies. I'm more than a little freaked out about finding something super-special to get Bunny for his 30th birthday, which is fast approaching. He's hard to shop for. Among other things, he doesn't know the rule about "stop buying yourself stuff a month before your birthday." When he sees something appealing, he tends to buy it. This means that I have to see something he'd like before he does. If anyone knows of a super-neat-o gift for an engineering/gamer/hockey geek, please drop me a note.

Happy 20th birthday to my sister kittywitch2. Also, congratulations to my mother, tchipakkan, for having survived 6,532 days of having at least one teenager. That's nearly 18 years, but you're finally done.

fetteredwolf reminds me that Rosh Hashanah begins tonight tomorrow (according to jewfaq.org). I shall now think about everybody I've wronged this year... ... bugger. I can't think of any, but that means I'm probably still justifying something to myself. Damn. I'm sure I'll think of something as soon as I hit "post." Watch this space.
Also, it's the autumnal equinox (er, Sunday, according to infoplease.com). As my mother's fond of pointing out, the solstices and equinoxes really aren't that big a deal to most Pagans, but I like them better than the midseason holidays, probably because I'm not really Pagan. So, um -- yay, axial tilt!
It's also Spike's birthday tomorrow and drinkywinky's. (LJ tells me that chimp_o_ley23's is coming up on Sunday.
So great, in nine sentences, I've acheived guilt, self-deprecation, alienation, agnosticism, cynicism, and regret. I love this time of year. Tomorrow, dabunny goes in for dental surgery, so at least I'll be able to smother him with all my angst for the next couple of days. *resists angst smothering*
edit: And Ramadan begins Sunday. Whoops. I knew I missed something.

chrestomathy2: (from the Greek: Useful to Know) I can't think of a better description, except that I don't think "useful" sums up how glad I am to know him, too. Many happy returns. "Who loves ya, Baby?"

The D-Kapitator Martini
Start with a double-shot of Jackass Threaten, but don't expose with blurry photographs -- humor should remain very dry muddle moments of surprising thoughtfulness or insight garnish with ketchup
Happy birthday Martini!

dabunny got me a bicycle for my birthday. Now I get to try to remember how to ride it. Trust me (and my skinned palms)... you CAN forget.
