Seeking "high-end experts in brain chemistry"
Terry Pratchett announces he has early-onset Alzheimer's. I am not okay with this, not even a little. Pratchett is keeping a good attitude about it, at least: "I think there's time for at least a few more books yet." (Of course, I'm not satisfied with this. He needs to produce at least two books a year until I die. I command it.) Terry Pratchett's brain can not rot out. Also, Neil Gaiman is never allowed to lose his hair. Or his brain. But also his hair.

In the post-script to his announcement, Pratchett says "I know it's a very human thing to say "Is there anything I can do", but in this case I would only entertain offers from very high-end experts in brain chemistry." Note to self: Study harder.

That is so sad. Everyone has to go sometime, even the awesome talented people, but that is one of the worst ways.

One of my friends called me first thing yesterday morning about this, preferring I hear it from her and not the internet. Completely shitty way to start the day.

yeah, I had to go outside and walk around a bit. I was actually afraid I'd start crying in the office.

The latest post on my LJ pretty much sums up how my thoughts have been running.

My condolences.

And now I admit that I had to google Terry Pratchett because I had no idea who he was.

It is so strange how each person on the planet is so similiar...and yet each lives in such totally different worlds with totally different points of reference. I wonder who is extremely important to me that other people don't know exist? Frank Orrall?

NO. No, not okay. Really not ok. Actually, the pronouncement is 3 books a year minimum until the end of time, so my kids can enjoy him etc. Can't we freeze him in a bio tank or something??? I am in the middle of Making MOney, it's as brilliant as his books always are. Oh my. I can't believe he's actually not going to be with us much longer, it's just not right. Like Gilda R or Jim H, people who just aren't supposed to end... I had no idea... and the prognosis for early onset sucks... f*ck...seriously...

Fond as I am of all things Gaiman, I'd gladly trade in his demi-mullet for the healing of Pratchett's brain.
