Angelfire dumped me.
Angelfire finally cancelled nh/dantaylor. It was really a matter of time, and my page was surprisingly long-lived (I'd had it since 1998). Angelfire is notorious for fairly arbitrary cancelling of accounts. Still, I wish I'd backed everything up. I keep remembering things that are not backed up, most notably, the archives of the "Further Adventures of Dan" going back to 1998. I just spent the last hour rescuing FAOD archives from Google Cache. I'm not done; there were a lot of them

When I log in it says:

Your account has been disabled for violation of Angelfire's Terms of Service. [broken link]

If you believe your site has been removed in error, please follow the instructions under here to appeal this decision.[broken link]

Frustrating. My suspicion is that someone complained about the transition diary, which had NSFW pictures in it. I don't expect to be able to get it back. I am slightly annoyed, but mostly annoyed with myself, because I knew this would probably happen someday, and didn't keep good enough records.

[edit, midnight: "Someone" just left a comment in the guestbook for this site. I love that no one can actually access the site, but spambots can still get to the damn guestbook.]

*hugs*

That's a bummer.

Well, I'll have a smoke with you.

If there’s stuff missing from Google’s cache, you might also try the Internet Archive’s Wayback Machine.

Hmm, I know another web service like that...

Yup. I back that (this) service up fairly regularly.
